Filters-
Need for a Noise Free Circuit
Any
electronic circuit has the major requirement to avoid errors if any,
to ensure hassle free data flow without any obstacles. The errors or
disturbances which occur in any powe line are the emissions of varied
nature. Like for say, if they are electromagnetic in nature, they are
termed as EMI Filter or electromagnetic interference. Likewise for
radio frequency emissions, the filter design used is known as RFI
Filter.
How
to Reduce Noise
Whenever
noise is produced, it make use of three elements, namely the noise
source, entity affected by noise and the propagation path between
them. For reducing the Noise, few steps has to be followed. The first
one is to reduce the level of a noise source. Then, use some measures
to make it difficult for the noise to propagate. Also, make the
equipment less vulnerable to noise.
For
High Level Attenuation
In the case when one EMI
Filter is not enough for controlling the attenuation, two
filters are connected in series for better performance. But, it will
result in combining the voltage drop and leakage current of both
filters. This external filter is called an auxillary filter.
There is another case for increasing
the performance when one filter can not provide sufficient
attenuation. Here an external core is inserted for giving an extra
support and maximizing the performance.
IEC
Inlet Filters
is an important variation of power inlet filters which employ
capacitors and inductors to emit high frequency interference. IEC
stands for International Electrotechnical
Commission which is an international organization for publishing
standard for all electrical and electronic technologies. IEC used in
the switch mode power supplies and also for equipments for medical
applications.
